What Can You Say About Someone who Killed Their Father for his money?
We were shocked when Melody told us what had happened to her beloved husband, Courtney. And Melody had been going through her anguish with little support, we also learned.
We had relocated to Utah and only learned about how Courtney had died weeks later.
We changed our plans and came back to California to be with her.
She had suffered through continual harassment by the same person who had carefully arranged to ensure Courtney would no longer stand in the way her way.
Carly Ann Gillespie - the daughter Courtney had mostly raised, and spoiled by paying all of the costs for her horses and anything else that caught her fancy.
Courtney had loved spending time with his children and had high hopes for both of them.
Courtney did not see much of Carly in recent years, and assumed she was working and caring for her children. That was also untrue. Carly soon tired of motherhood and dumped kids with anyone willing to take over the work.
And when she learned Courtney's health was failing, though he and Melody had been told by their physicians he would live at least five years, Carly put together a plan to shorten time of her own father's life. In this way, she mistakenly thought she could get her hands on the five acres of land, the house, and Courtney and Melody's savings, accumulated from years of honest work.
Carly did manage to graduate from Hansford High School, but there was little else to be said for her virtues.
Courtney never knew how Carly was spending her time, which is too bad. Carly was into stealing cars - and anything else that was not locked down. But Courtney did not know this, which would have broken his heart.
